Greenhouse production
The Westland municipality has the largest concentration of greenhouse production companies in the world. There are also large greenhouse production companies located in the area around Aalsmeer and in the Wieringermeer, the new Agriport A7 area.
The large majority of the plants (e.g. cut flowers, plants, fruit and vegetables) are exported overseas.
Greenhouse producers are always busy creating innovations in the fields of growing technology, environmental investment and all kinds of extensive developments. Alongside production, innovation, trade and logistics always occupy an important position. Dutch greenhouse production provides you with a fantastic opportunity to gain an insight into production, processing, inspection, marketing, sales and transport. Agri Experience gives you a peek behind the scenes in companies in the provinces of North and South Holland and Flevoland.
Arable farming
The four most important crops cultivated by arable farming companies are potatoes, grains, onions and sugar beets. On the worldwide stage, Dutch arable farming plays a prominent role in potato cultivation. But arable farming produces much more, such as vegetables, flowers, bulbs and oil-rich seeds and crops that are used as the basis for non-food products.
Arable farmers are always on the lookout for new markets and cultivation opportunities. Arable farming is also a dynamic sector in the field of environment and technology. The European Agricultural Policy strives towards innovation, sustainability and a better revenue model.
Expansion remains an important trend, production is becoming increasingly intensive, and processing and export are of great significance. Arable farming is a valuable component of the Dutch agricultural sector. We are happy to organise an informative visit for your company.
Particularly in Flevoland, organic cultivation represents a modern and profitable method of cultivation.
Bulb cultivation
Bulbs and flowers are the trademark of the Netherlands. The attractive assortment and in-depth knowledge has given the Netherlands an edge over other countries. Important factors for achieving success in bulb cultivation are inspection, expertise, information and the exchange of knowledge. Weather conditions exert a crucial influence on production results and thus also on the number of bulbs that appear on the market every year.
Bulb cultivation is closely linked to the seasons, experiencing a peak during the harvest and processing periods. A visit to a bulb producer is spring is particularly special. The colours of the blooming tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and grape hyacinths simply cannot be put into words. During the summer and autumn, it is interesting to experience the processing of the bulbs first hand. In the winter, the bulbs are prepared for auction in the greenhouses.
The producers are happy to tell you everything about bulb cultivation in the Netherlands and Agri Experience knows exactly where you should go to experience each process.
Livestock farming
Livestock farming is in full motion thanks to innovations in the field of animal welfare and sustainability. As one of the top sectors within agriculture, livestock farming is crucial for the Dutch economy. Half of all farming land in the Netherlands is made up of pasture lands where farmers let their livestock graze. There is also an increasing number of mega stables: as a result of expansion and automation within livestock farming, the scale of livestock farming companies continues to grow.
It is possible to organise company visits to breeders, dairy farmers, cheese makers, goat farmers and pig farmers.
Visit a variety of interesting livestock farms in the Groene Hart and the North Holland polders and notice the differences in vision and management. The farmer will gladly guide you through his company and provide an enthusiastic explanation of life on a farm, describing what can be expected when running a modern livestock farm. You'll see that the work is always carried out with respect for people, animals and the environment.
